Article 124
The following do not constitute infringement of trade secrets:
- 1.Where a person, without infringing the trade secrets of others, acquires the information independently and as a result of his own activities.
- 2.Where the information is obtained as a result of reverse engineering.
Note — A person who obtains information by one of the aforesaid methods may, where the conditions of Article (122) of this Act are met, enjoy the legal protection relating to trade secrets in respect of the information obtained.

Is reverse engineering legal in Iran?
Yes. Neither independent discovery through one's own activity nor obtaining the information by reverse engineering counts as infringement of a trade secret, and the person may themselves gain trade-secret protection if the legal conditions are met.
