Term and renewal

The term of validity of a trademark registration certificate is ten years from the date of filing of its application. Renewal of the certificate is possible for consecutive ten-year periods, provided that it is requested six months before the expiry of the term of validity, upon payment of the relevant fee.

Note 1 — Where renewal is not requested within the prescribed period, renewal is possible within six months after the expiry of the term of validity, upon payment of a penalty equal to twice the registration fee.

Note 2 — The Registration Authority is obliged, one month before the expiry of the term of validity of the certificate referred to in this Article, to inform the holder of the trademark registration certificate, in an appropriate manner, of the need to pay the fee.
